Snow Creek

Today was a day to venture to a beach that I had driven by many times and never stopped. Boats for diving and fishing used to launch here, but the winter seems to have taken a toll and the buildings are all closed. It is still a wonderful spot to paint! The water is crystal clear and you can see the tidal area life on the ocean bottom. Two sea otters are playing in the kelp and a couple of eagles watch from above—a perfect afternoon.

I decide to focus on 2 stacks that are off-shore. They stand out from the coast and attract a variety of sea life. I have looked at these two formations from many angles and decide on a view where I paint both, relatively close. The light is changing quickly today with a marine layer floating in the distance obscuring Vancouver Island. Time passes quickly and soon the water is lapping at my toes and it is time to go home.
